Once upon a time this building used to be an art deco theater. You can still see some of the interior detailing once inside the store, just look up.

Reasonably priced now that I'm not a student. A great place to eat if you are part of the hip-overweight crowd. Otherwise, a wonderful people watching scene of skin art, circa 1950's fashion, and piercings. Love it.

  • California Department of Health Services building (Demolished), PTUrsus wrote 16 years ago:
This building is, last I heard, a UC property with the intended use for the School of Public Health (currently scattered across campus and the city of Berkeley) and Environmental Health Sciences. I believe the School of Public Health is a part of EHS, but I could be wrong. My understanding is that EHS/School of Public Health needs to raise several million dollars for the demolishing of the existing structure and the building of a new structure.

Poor use of the term "fun" as it is not describe what kind of fun. Sadly, however, the sentiment is true, with the exception of Triple Rock further north on Shattuck Ave.

SO much more pleasant than Home Depot. The checkers actually smile and say hi, there's customer assistance folks roaming around asking if you need help, and they have a drive-in bay where you get large items like bags of dirt delivered directly to your trunk.
